The first thing to consider is the places where you want to go. The favorite spots include Beijing, Xi’an, and Shanghai. Guilin, and Chengdu are other great places that you can also visit. Make sure that you go to places that will interest you. Research on these areas and consider where you really want to go. It is important also to determine the activities that can be done in these places.

Include Beijing in your itinerary if you want to see a mix of history and modernity. The Forbidden City and the Great Wall are things to see in Beijing.

For history lovers, Xi’an is the place in China to visit. The nation of China had its roots here. China’s first emperor ruled here. In this place you will see sights like the grand Terracotta Army, the Wild Big Goose Pagoda, and the Great Mosque.

If you want some picturesque scenery then you can visit Guilin where a Chinese minority lives. The landscape in this place is truly beautiful and it gives you a relaxing escape from the city. One of the things you can do here is to cruise the Li River to Yangshuo. If you are interested in the minority culture you can spend some days at the Longji Rice Terraces. This is where they plant in tiered fields and you can get to meet the Zhuang and Yao minorities.

Chengdu is home to the giant pandas. If you want to taste a great cuisine like the Spicy Sichuan hotpot, then Chengdu is the place to go.

So, after picking your destination, decide how long you will stay. A week in China would be ideal if you don’t just want to scratch the surface of China.

You should know about the visa policy in China and the gateway cities. Beijing and Shanghai are the top gateway cities for international flights. Hong Kong is also a gateway city for entering China.
